New Event Space in Bloomfield Township, Michigan
For Metro Detroit parents looking for a BRAND NEW venue where you can have your child’s bar/bat mitzvah service right before the party at the same place, check out Bloomfield Hollow. This new event space by Zack Sklar is set to open at the end of 2027.
Here’s the article from dBusiness Detroit:
Chef Zack Sklar has unveiled plans for a $17 million event venue named Bloomfield Hollow in a 30-acre forest in Bloomfield Township, off Franklin Road just north of Square Lake Road.
Sklar is a classically trained chef and restaurateur best known for Oakland County staples Social, Mex, Beau’s Grillery, and Como’s.

Set to break ground later this year, Bloomfield Hollow will be a 30,000-square-foot “architecturally significant” event venue large enough to host notable events.
Now, he’s shifting his focus to large-scale development. He’s the owner/operator of 20-year-old Cutting Edge Cuisine catering business, as well as Strive Staffing, a hospitality staffing agency in the state.
“I’ve been obsessed with design forever,” Sklar says. “I wanted to create something that felt transitional and timeless. You can find an empty building in Oakland County to convert into an events space, but you can’t really find a sanctuary of world-class design nestled in between 30 acres of woods and wetlands. This is going to be a jewel box for Bloomfield Township, with reach far beyond its borders.”
The Bloomfield Hollow development will sit on a parcel that contains protected wetlands and mature forests. To preserve the natural integrity of the site, the venue and parking will occupy a small clearing in the center of the parcel, requiring a winding, quarter-mile scenic drive into the woods to reach the entrance.
Before design began, Sklar commissioned a comprehensive environmental study that measured and cataloged the circumference of every single tree on the parcel — numbering in the thousands — to ensure the site plan minimized disruption to the old-growth canopy.
“We are keeping the native trees and cutting down the absolute bare minimum,” Sklar says. “Architecture is designed to wrap around the wetlands, not pave over them. When you arrive, there is going to be a massive wow factor. And you are just surrounded by woods.”
New York-based designer Joel Dixon is helping execute Sklar’s vision. Together, they assembled a team that includes Interior Designer Mel McKoy, Mexico City-based design architect Isaac Michan, and New York-based landscape architects LandForm.
The engine of the project is Cutting Edge Cuisine, which was founded 20 years ago in New York City by Sklar and fellow Culinary Institute of America-trained pastry chef Justin Kurtz. Today, the team caters events at such sites as Michigan Central Station and manages culinary activations for luxury brands like Gucci, RH, Lamborghini, Bentley, and Tom Ford.
Bloomfield Hollow is designed to fill a gap in the suburban market: a large capacity venue that prioritizes culinary execution and design.
“There isn’t much in our backyards to accommodate 600 to 700 people for a sit-down dinner outside of a hotel ballroom,” Sklar says. “But we are building this to be a higher-end experience. There are no hot boxes. Everything is cooked a la minute, on-site, utilizing the world’s finest ingredients. It’s the same level of detail and execution as when we cater for global icons like Serena Williams or for luxury car brand launches.”
The venue is designed with what the developers are calling “a timeless, neutral palette capable of flexing seamlessly to match any event identity.” Notably, the structure is engineered with automotive clients in mind, allowing vehicles to drive directly through the venue for new car reveals and press events.
The space is being designed to accommodate everything from automotive reveals requiring off-road terrain for clients like Ford, to large-scale cultural weddings, supported by Cutting Edge’s expertise in global cuisines, including Middle Eastern, Indian, and Chinese.
Features will include:
- Capacity: 650 seated guests; more than 1,000 for strolling events.
- Layout: Two floors featuring a sunken amphitheater and indoor/outdoor capabilities.
- Outdoor Immersion: Expansive outdoor areas designed to seamlessly blend events with the surrounding forest.
- The Greenhouse: A glass-enclosed atrium offering 270-degree views of the surrounding nature.
The project has passed its initial design review and moves to the Planning Commission on Feb. 2. Construction is expected to take about a year, with a target opening in late 2027.
