Many families first meet Rabbi Jason Miller when they begin planning a bar or bat mitzvah. What frequently starts as preparation for one important celebration develops into a meaningful relationship that continues for many years.
Rabbi Jason does not see himself as an officiant who simply arrives for the ceremony and then moves on. He becomes a trusted rabbi for the student and the entire family, someone they can call upon as they celebrate, mourn, face challenges, and move through the many stages of Jewish life.

For more than 25 years, Rabbi Jason has worked with Jewish children, teenagers, college students, and families. His experience includes directing and developing educational programs in synagogues, Jewish summer camps, Jewish youth groups, high school programs, and at the University of Michigan Hillel Foundation.
Rabbi Jason was ordained by the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City, where he also earned a master’s degree in Jewish education from the William Davidson School. His academic training, combined with decades of practical experience, has shaped an educational approach that is personal, engaging, supportive, and deeply responsive to the needs of each student.
He has guided hundreds of students from Reform, Conservative, Reconstructionist, interfaith, secular, unaffiliated, and post-denominational families. He also has extensive experience working with students who have learning differences and other support needs.
Preparing for a bar or bat mitzvah involves much more than learning Hebrew prayers and practicing a Torah portion. Rabbi Jason focuses on the intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual development of each student.
He helps young people build confidence, develop a positive Jewish identity, understand the meaning behind what they are learning, and recognize their place within the Jewish community. His goal is not simply to prepare a student to perform well during a ceremony. It is to create an experience that helps the student grow as a person and feel proud of who they are.
Rabbi Jason’s background leading youth groups and dynamic family-based educational programs also allows him to involve parents and other family members meaningfully in the process. Every student and every family is different, so the preparation and ceremony are thoughtfully adapted to their individual needs, abilities, traditions, and goals.
As an independent, post-denominational rabbi, Rabbi Jason works outside the boundaries of any single congregation. This allows him to meet families where they are, both religiously and geographically, without requiring synagogue membership.
Rabbi Jason provides personalized bar and bat mitzvah tutoring through one-on-one Zoom sessions and officiates ceremonies in person throughout the United States and around the world. Services can take place in a private home, hotel, country club, event venue, resort, synagogue, or virtually anywhere a family chooses to gather.
